Lauren Peterson

Say hello to Lauren Peterson

After a few weeks at outré creative, we caught up with Lauren to see how she’s settling in as the newest member of our writing team.

So, tell us a little about yourself. Where were you before?

I’m originally from Kansas City, Kansas. No, I don’t expect you to know where that is.

I moved to New Jersey for undergraduate, earned my degree in 2020, moved to New York City in 2021, and worked at a law firm as a paralegal for a year before joining outré creative.

What did you do in college?

Well, like most people, a lot of things. I was recruited as a swimmer, so I was swimming for about 20 hours a week. I swam long-distance events like the 500, 1000 and mile. Basically the events no one else wanted to swim.

I was also a history major, meaning a lot of reading and writing. Which I must have enjoyed, because I’m still reading and writing here at outré.

What is your favorite (favourite?) thing to read?

I used to be really into historical fiction before the pandemic. Did I mention I was a history major?

And as of late, I’ve been really into horror novels. I’ve always loved horror movies, so maybe it’s just a natural progression. I’m currently reading House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski, if anyone’s wondering.

How’s New York treating you?

I would say well, but I did get stuck in my building’s elevator the second week that I was here.

While that wasn’t exactly on my bucket list, it did feel like something that would inevitably happen, living in New York City. Traumatic experiences aside, I’ve really enjoyed it here.

Any pandemic hobbies you’ve picked up?

I think the better question would be to ask what pandemic hobby I haven’t picked up. I started crochet, baking bread, perfecting the chocolate chip cookie, and brewing my own kombucha.

I’ve stuck with one or two hobbies, but I’m not ashamed to say I’ve dropped a lot of them as well. Variety is the spice of life, after all.

How are you enjoying outré creative so far?

I’m loving it so far! I feel incredibly lucky to be able to work alongside such talented and passionate people.

I’m looking forward to working with everyone on new and exciting projects, and learning a lot from them along the way.
